Auburn Tigers Roar to 10-1 Victory

March 29, 2016

MONTGOMERY, AL – The Auburn Tigers continued their dominance in the MAX Capital City Classic, winning the rivalry game for the seventh time in eight years of its history, 10-1 over the Alabama Crimson Tide on Tuesday night at Riverwalk Stadium in downtown Montgomery.

A boisterous crowd of over 7,300 bore witness to one of the most explosive offensive performances of the season that saw Auburn score at least once in each of the first six innings. This included a four-run first that saw Tigers catcher Blake Logan hit his first home run of the season—and the first in more than two years—when he took Alabama starter Jon Keller deep with a three-run bomb over the left field wall. The home run—an absolute moonshot—even cleared the black fence behind the train tracks. The Tigers never looked back.

Auburn continued to pour it on when center fielder Anfernee Grier launched his SEC-leading 7th home run of the season. The Tigers collected 15 hits, six of which went for extra bases, and got a solid pitching performance from starter Andrew Mitchell who threw for six innings, surrendering six hits, and just one run while striking out five. Logan, who finished 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs, went on to be named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

The Tigers will look to make it eight of nine in the MAX Capital City Classic when the two rivals meet in Montgomery next year on March 28, 2017.
